RCS Musicians To Perform at Opryland

(MURFREESBORO) There have always been stories about what a musician needs to do for an invitation to perform at a world reknown venue. The answer is always the same--"practice"!

Rutherford County Schools' students and teacher musicians have been invited to partcipate in the Tennessee Music Education Association (TMEA) later this month at Opryland Resort and Convention Center.

Stewarts Creek Treble Choir

The Athena Treble Choir from Stewarts Creek High School was selected to be a featured performance ensemble at the TMEA Conference. The Athena Treble choir auditioned and was selected for this honor. They will be performing a “Chamber Ensemble Spotlight” at 9:00 o'clock Thursday morning, April 20, 2023.

Blackman Middle and High Percussion

The TMEA conference will also feature performances by the Blackman Middle School and Blackman High School Percussion Ensembles. 

That same afternoon at 4:00PM, Stewarts Creek and Blackman High students will perform at Opryland.

Additionally, several RCS teachers were selected to present professional development sessions at the conference. Those include:

  • John Hearnes (OMS), Jim Reed (RMS), and David England (BMS) will lead a session titled "Your Questions Answered: A Q & A with Percussionists"
  • David Aydelott and Brenda Gregory (SIH) will lead a session titled "Cease Fire! Forging Synergetic Band/Choir Relations"
  • Stacy Ray and Erin Powers (HPC) will lead a session titled "Music and Movement"
