Coach Kolby Tackett has announced his resignation as head coach of the MTCS football program. In his two years as head coach, Coach Tackett led the Cougars to a 17-7 record, the school’s first region championship in Division II, and the first trip to the TSSAA state semifinals in program history.
Coach Tackett states, “This was an extremely difficult decision because I know how much success lies ahead for this program, but we couldn’t pass on the opportunity for my wife, daughter, and I to be back in the Orlando area. I won’t be in Tennessee any longer, but I will still be cheering for the Cougars every Friday night! To the players, you have given me everything you have, and I am eternally grateful! We have so many great administrators, coaches, parents, and support staff who help make MTCS a GREAT place to coach football!”
An immediate search for the next leader of the MTCS football program has begun. Offensive coordinator, Christian Peterson, will serve as interim head coach. Coach Peterson has been a member of the Cougar coaching staff for two seasons and serves as a full time staff member at the school.
President Matt Tiller says, “We thank Coach Tackett for his contributions to our football program and more importantly the positive impact he has had on our students in his time here. He and his family will be greatly missed, and we pray that God will bless them as they make a transition back home to Florida. MTCS football has great momentum today and an amazingly bright future! We are excited to see who God will raise up to lead our football program. Go Cougars!”
