(READYVILLE, TN) A century old home near the Readyville Mill was destroyed early Saturday (4/1/2023) morning by the tornado that swept through the area. It was about a thousand feet from the historic Readyville Mill, which was also destroyed.
The victim tol WGNS that her granddaughter phoned her a little before 2:00AM and told her to get in the "safe place". She locked herself in the bathroom along with her small dog, and described hearing the storm opening doors in the home, pushing furniture, and blowing mirrors off the walls.
The woman noted, "It tugged at the bathroom door, but I held firm." After the storm passed, she was trapped by debris against the bathroom door.
She could hear emergency crews calling, concerned neighbors were helping and they were able to free her and pet dog and get them to safety. In tears, the resident emotionally commented, "God sheltered me, and He has a reason."
The Heart of Tennessee Chapter of the American Red Cross has a shelter set-up in the area at West Side Elementary School at 3714 Murfreesboro Rd. in Readyville.
The Rutherford County Sheriffs Office has a command post located at B &W Market, 11750 John Bragg Hwy. RCSO Sgt Trey Nunley is on the scene providing information.
New Hope Church of Christ at 4296 Murfreesboro Rd., Readyville, TN has opened the church for severe weather victims and first responders that require bathroom facilities. SEE MORE PHOTOS HERE.
