New Fire Hall Being Built on Lascassas Pike where the Old Lascassas School Once Stood - Historic Rock Wall to Remain In-Tact and Part of the Plans

The land that the old Lascassas School (6531 Lascassas Pike, Lascassas, TN) once sat on will soon be home to a brand new Rutherford County Fire and Safety Department building. Currently, the Lascassas Volunteer Fire Department sits on the back half of the property, which encompases about 5-acres. While residents are pleased to receive the added safety of the new fire hall and ambulance service center, they are equally concerned about preserving a piece of history that sits on the front portion of the property.

The original Lascassas School was built in in 1824, but caught fire in 1926. In 1927, a new school was built that allowed for studies in first grade through 10th grade. The county also constructed a gymnasium in 1936. In 1952, the gym was later damaged by fire. In 1954, a new concrete block structure was added for a cafeteria and agriculture shop.The school was used up until the 1970’s.
