Rutherford County, TN - While parents already knew that schools were going to be closed on Tuesday for a teacher in-service day, educators are now being notified that they too will not have to be at their school. Teachers were notified on Monday that all schools will be closed and the in-service day has been re-scheduled.

School Communications Director James Evans stated, “As you know, students are already out of school [Tuesday] tomorrow while employees are scheduled for an in-service day. Because of the potential for poor road conditions Tuesday morning and evening, and out of an abundance of caution, Director of Schools Jimmy Sullivan has decided to cancel the in-service day, and school employees do not need to report to their schools."

District Office - Based on the timing of the forecasted potential for freezing rain, the district’s central office will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday to allow those employees to delay their commute until temperatures rise above freezing. The policy committee meeting and special-called School Board meeting will continue Tuesday evening as scheduled.

As for extracurricular school activities on Tuesday, Evans said, “We will make an announcement Tuesday morning about the status of any extracurricular school activities scheduled for Tuesday.”

The employee in-service-day will be rescheduled. Employees should have already received an email on Monday evening from Dr. Sullivan explaining the make-up date for the in-service day, which has been moved to March 21, 2023. Evans said in closing, “We will keep everyone posted about any potential schedule changes for Wednesday as we monitor the weather and road conditions.”

Again, schools are closed for school-level employees on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023.
