(Bedford County, TN) Vehicular homicide charges have been filed against an alleged drunk driver after two people in the vehicle that the suspect was reportedly driving were killed. The wreck occurred this past Saturday afternoon in Bedford County on Warners Bridge Road, west of Shelbyville.

Suspect Ezequiel Real Estrada of Shelbyville, has been charged with two counts of Vehicular Homicide by Driver Intoxication, five counts of Vehicular Assault, DUI: First Offense and Failure to Yield Right of Way Resulting in Death. The charges were filed against the 42-year-old man on Monday in the Bedford County Courts.

The passengers in Estrada’s Nissan Sentra were 41-year-old Martin Agueros Ortiz and 55-year-old Felipe De Jesus Hipolito, both of Shelbyville. The two men were killed in the Saturday crash, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The THP reports the wreck occurred as Estrada was driving east on Warners Bridge Road when he attempted to turn left onto Rabbit Branch Road in front of a Dodge pickup truck that was heading west. The truck was being driven by 18-year-old Ashton Koah of Shelbyville.

While Estrada was charged with DUI: First Offense in the crash this past Saturday, court documents from 2012 show an “Ezequiel Real Estrada” plead guilty to DUI: First Offense, as a result of a charge that was filed on August 19, 2012 (Case 2GS1-2012-CR-93858). In Tennessee, a DUI conviction stays on record for 10-years. In this case, that 10-year period technically started on the day of the charge and ended 5-months and 2-days prior to the Saturday fatality.

A court hearing for the suspect has been scheduled to take place on April 6, 2023 at 9:01 AM. The hearing will be in the courtroom of Judge Charles L. Rich, the same judge who oversaw the DUI case a little over 10-years ago.
