Murfreesboro, TN – Detectives with the Murfreesboro Police Department continue to investigate a string of car break-ins that occurred at Richard Siegel Soccer Park, SportsCom, Bark Park, the Manson Pike Greenway Trailhead, Old Fort Park, and Barfield Park on Saturday, January 21, 2023 in Murfreesboro.

Detectives believe the thieves could be part of a group of criminals nicknamed the Felony Lane Gang, which are subjects that reportedly travel from city to city breaking into cars parked at gyms, parks, walking trails and other recreational areas. Police previously reported that once the thieves obtain someones purse or billfold, they use stolen ID cards, credit / debit cards, and checks to steal cash from bank accounts. The thieves will go as far as impersonating the victims they steal from to complete fraudulent transactions at local banks. In some cases, suspects wear wigs to alter their appearance when attempting to cash a stolen check or checks.

The nickname of Felony Lane Gang reportedly came from a trend that has been seen nationwide... that trend falls into the path of thieves using the outside lane of bank drive-thru's to cash checks or withdraw money from the account of victims they steal from.

In the recent rash of break-ins reported in Murfreesboro, a silver Audi SUV, with no license plate, was seen on video stopping in parking lots while an individual gets out, starts looking into vehicles and checking door handles. The thief broke-out the windows of several vehicles and stole items that included purses, debit / credit cards, ID cards, checkbooks, car keys, key fobs, and other items. Some of the vehicles that were broken into were easy targets, because the victims left their doors unlocked.

Since the increase of car break-ins has been reported, police have added additional patrol routes in Murfreesboro Parks.
