It’s the One-Year Anniversary of the Rutherford County Courthouse Museum

(Rutherford County, TN) It’s the one-year anniversary of the Rutherford County Courthouse Museum and Main Street Murfreesboro held a celebrational open house for the museum on Wednesday afternoon.

You may recall the opening of the museum in 2021 and the efforts made by former County Mayor Bill Ketron to highlight local history… African American history from Rutherford County is also on display in the museum. When the museum opened in 2021, African American Heritage Society President Mary Watkins said... The museum is an ongoing partnership between Rutherford County Archives and the Center for Historic Preservation at Middle Tennessee State University.

Also of historical significance, the Rutherford County courthouse is one of only six pre-civil war era courthouses still standing in the Volunteer state. It is located in the center of the Murfreesboro public square.

The county courthouse museum is open Monday thru Friday between 8AM and 5PM. It is also open on Saturday’s from 8AM to 3PM and Sunday from 1PM to 5PM.

If you have historic artifacts that are tied to Rutherford County, you’re encouraged to contact the Rutherford County Archives department at 615-867-4609. Your historically significant items can be displayed on loan or they can be donated to the county museum.
