(Rutherford County, TN) The teaching profession is lacking enough educators state-wide, which is equaling problems locally at the college level and within our Rutherford County and City of Murfreesboro School Systems… That was JC Bowman, Executive Director of the Professional Educator’s of Tennessee.

While Bowman told WGNS the teacher pay-scale in Rutherford County ranks well when compared to other school districts, schools will have to get more creative in their benefits and recruiting efforts. The state will also have to figure out new ways of attracting college graduates into the teaching profession. One idea would give college students scholarship funds, if they agree to go into teaching for 2 to 4-years upon graduation…

As Bowman mentioned, the teacher shortage is a nationwide problem. One state’s Department of Education is even starting a million-dollar ad campaign that will reach out to potential teachers in other states. CBS News reported…

In planning ahead for educational materials that are outside the realm of basic math and reading subjects, textbook companies and administrators are faced with a difficult task, according to JC Bowman… While future job training is not the responsibility of a first-grade teacher, the thought of what jobs will be in high demand 10 to 15-years from now is often considered when deciding what areas of study should receive the most attention.
