While banks were closed for Columbus Day on Monday throughout Rutherford County, gas pumps were open and area residents did not enjoy the uptick in prices to start the week off. As the federal holiday ended and Tuesday began, the average price of regular unleaded gas throughout Tennessee rang the bell at $3.39 per gallon. That’s an increase of 21.1-cents, when compared to prices this past week.

In Rutherford County, the average price-per-gallon of regular unleaded fuel is sitting at $3.38. Currently, Murfreesboro has the lowest average price of gas at $3.25 per gallon, followed by Smyrna at $3.31 per gallon. In LaVergne, the price of regular unleaded fuel is selling for $3.34 per gallon. If you only look at the main areas of Rutherford County and leave out gas stations in the more rural communities like Eagleville, Christiana and Lascassas, the average price-per-gallon comes in at $3.30.

According to GasBuddy.com, the lowest price of gas since 2008 in Tennessee was recorded on January 2, 2009 when the price at the pump was $1.45 per gallon. The highest price was on June 12th of this year (2022) at $4.64 per gallon for regular unleaded.

Despite the most recent rise in prices, Tennessee has the 7th least expensive price of gas throughout the country. The national average of regular unleaded is $3.93 per gallon. Tennessee’s average price on Tuesday morning was $3.39 per gallon.

Throughout the state of Tennessee, the lowest price of regular unleaded fuel just before Columbus Day was $2.89 per gallon, while the highest price rang in at $4.09 per gallon.

The national average price of diesel has increased 18.0 cents in the last week and stands at $5.04 per gallon.
