UPDATE: Murfreesboro, Tenn.— Crews from Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE) based in Murfreesboro answered the call of duty by heading to areas recently impacted by Hurricane Ian... That was Amy Byers, Communications Director for MTE. Byers said the first stop for our crews was Ridgeland, South Carolina this past Thursday, which is about 22-miles inland from Hilton Head Island. The workers then headed southeast to join other utility crews in Berkeley County, South Carolina near Charleston.

After helping restore outages for the Berkley Electric Cooperative caused by the hurricane, the MTE crews traveled away from South Carolina and into the service territory of hard-hit Lee County, Florida. Efforts began early Tuesday (10/04/2022) morning for crews from Rutherford County, working alongside the Lee County Electric Cooperative in Florida…

By 6AM on Tuesday, just over 41% of the six-county service territory served by the Lee County utility provider had been restored. However, homes and businesses in the Sanibel and Pine Island areas remain dark and are not accessible to line crews. With additional help funneling into the area, the number of restoration workers will grow to 2,000 by the end of this week (10/07/2022). Additional crews will arrive on Wednesday and possibly Thursday.

Sadly, some of the most severe damage occurred in the vicinity of Ft. Meyers and Sanibel Island. This is part of LCEC's service area. Again, Middle Tennessee Electric Crews are currently in the Lee County where they are working around the clock to help restore power. Crews from Rutherford and Wilson Counties are working with other cooperatives to help the residents of the areas hit by Hurricane Ian.
