What started as a teaching role has led one educator into her current position as the assistant principal of LaVergne High School. Lisa Fitzcharles, who has served with Rutherford County Schools for the past 12 years stated, “I absolutely love the assistant principal position because its 50 percent teacher and 50 percent student support, and I love both roles.”

Fitzcharles said she enjoys being a part of LaVergne High School and that her students are exceptional, noting the parents’ role in raising children, “We have amazing parents in our community who have raised amazing kids.”

As a senior in college, Fitzcharles drove a couple of hours away to visit Rutherford County for a teachers job fair. It was that visit that led her to apply for a position with the county school system. Evidently, that first visit involved LaVergne High School, which impacted her. She reported, “I had other offers, but LaVergne High School gave me the best impression. I started teaching and now I’ve been here ever since (12 years).”

Lisa Fitzcharles spent 7-years teaching, 3-years as the instructional coach and is now going into her second year as the assistant principal of LaVergne High School.
