(RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TENN.) Rutherford County school students will return to class for an abbreviated day this Friday, followed by their first full-day on Monday. The headcount is expected be approximately 50,000 students and growing - - which means more classrooms are needed, especially at the middle and high school level... That was Dr. James Sullivan, director of the Rutherford County Schools.

The Blackman and Rockvale communities continue to grow at a record pace, but those are not the only areas of concern for Dr. Sullivan... Rutherford County is also home to one of the largest middle schools in the state...

The county schools are actively looking for land to build new middle and high schools on... The Rutherford County Schools will continue to look for property near I-840, Veterans Parkway and Highway 96. The ultimate goal would be to find land that is large enough for both a middle and high school.

Elementary Schools Not Growing As Fast: There has been less growth in K through 5th grade students throughout the county, because of the increased cost of housing... This does not mean there is a total decrease in the number of elementary aged students, it only equals less growth when compared to years' past.

MURFREESBORO SCHOOLS STARTING FRIDAY: Murfreesboro City Schools will re-open to students for a half day this Friday (August 5, 2022). That day will be for students in grades 1 through 6th.
