(SHELBYVILLE, TN) In neighboring Shelbyville, TN on Tuesday (6/7/2022), members of the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, Shelbyville Police Department, and the United States Marshal’s Service apprehended murder suspect Donald Harris Jr. of Memphis, TN. The 32-year-old was wanted by the Shelby County Sheriff's Office in Memphis on first-degree murder and aggravated robbery charges.
When officers attempted to take Harris into custody at a Barksdale Lane apartment, authorities say he was able to jump out of a bedroom window in an attempt to flee. After a brief foot pursuit, he was taken into custody without further incident.
Harris was wanted for the murder and robbery of 25-year-old Malik Smith that occurred in early May in southeast Shelby County, TN. Harris was one of four men believed to be connected to the crime. Previously arrested were 30-year-old Jarrod Kenard Macklin Vaughn, 30-year-old Phillip Jones and 34-year-old Jeremiah Chalmers. They were each charged with first degree murder, as well as conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery. They also face drug and gun charges.
During a subsequent search of the address where Harris was believed to be, investigators made contact with 43-year old Craig Green of Shelbyville. Officials say that in his bedroom they located approximately 4 grams of crack cocaine, crystal "ice" methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a 12 gauge shotgun. As a result of police finding drugs in the apartment, Green was also apprehended and charged with possession of a schedule II drug with intent to resale, possession of a schedule II drug, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
