The Murfreesboro Police Department confirmed that officers responded to the area of 173 Bridge Ave in reference to a welfare check on Wednesday morning around 11.  Upon their arrival, officers discovered the lifeless body of a man identified as Kevin Wade. The 52-year-old man was located under a bridge near the CSX railroad tracks.

Rutherford County Emergency Medical Service personnel responded and confirmed that Mr. Wade was deceased.

While autopsy reports will not be available for quite some time, the low temperatures over the past few nights and mornings has been dangerously cold, especially for those living in the elements. On the morning of his death, the low was recorded at 25-degrees with a windchill that made the temperature feel like 21-degrees. The previous night had a windchill of 18-degrees.

MPD confirmed an autopsy has been requested.  The medical examiner’s office will make a determination as to the exact cause of death after the autopsy is complete.

Mr. Wade died just 37-days before his 53rd birthday (02/18/1969 - 01/12/2022).

More on Wade

Many who knew Wade, knew him as a quiet, yet intellectual individual who battled schizophrenia as best he could. Several people who called Wade a friend said that he would often recite Bible verses when he was plagued with voices that existed only in his head.

He was also a U.S. Army veteran, according to WGNS' Scott Walker who took Wade to several doctor appointments at the York VA Medical Center in years past.

Walker said that Wade once told him, “I have a daughter, but have not seen her.” When asked why, Wade stated, “I don't know if she knows who I am and I don't want to cause her problems with my own problems.”
