WGNS has an update on the Thompson Lane road widening project in Murfreesboro. Evidently, the state is currently in the process of working with land and homeowners to acquire right-of-way property, according to Mayor Shane McFarland...
The mayor says that widening Thompson Lane is a major project to undertake...
Reports indicate construction to widen Thompson Lane will take a minimum of four years to complete – from start to finish. While that may sound like a lengthy wait for a road to be widened, the city first proposed widening Thompson Lane to the state in 2005.
Looking back, Thompson Lane was built in the mid to late 1960's and completed in the early '70's. Needless to say, Murfreesboro was much smaller when that road first opened for motorist. Records show that the city had a population count of just over 26,300 residents in 1970. Today, that number stands at over 152,000 residents.
