(RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN)  When do you trick or treat this year.  2021 is a challenging year for spooks, and made even more so with the fluctuating numbers from COVID-19 along with Halloween falling on Sunday. So what do you do? 

After checking local, state and national sources--there's no rule or even guide post. In other words, neighborhoods and parents need to do what's most comfortable for them. 

Which Night Is Right? 

Area churches, city parks and law enforcement agencies are planning trunk or treats, drive-through trick or treating, hay rides and more. However, they're all on different nights in an effort not to create competition. 

As you recall, COVID restrictions curtailed trick or treating last year, so there is much excitement in 2021. No matter which night you choose, it is thought that the spooks go out in the early evening, usually around 5:00PM and ending by 8:30 or 9:00PM--earlier if it's cold, and the forecast looks as if it will be! 

If you wish to go with majority rules, then Sunday, October 31, between 5:00-8:00PM is the top winner. 

Safety First

Whether we're talking about really youngsters or older kids, make certain that they are visible. Make certain they wear reflective tape and it's smart for them to carry lit plastic pumpkins in which to store their candy or some other flash light. Adults should always be with the children and they should have strong flashlights too. 

Also, keep in mind thaty sunset is around 6:00PM this time of the year and it starts getting dark in the 5:00 o'clock hour. If you have young children, it's safer and a little warmer to knock on doors around 5:30PM.
