COVID-19 Rates Continue to Increase in Rutherford County

Rutherford County is currently listed as being in a "High” COVID Community Transmission category, according to the CDC. This past week only highlights the problem as there has been a 17% increase in hospitalizations in Rutherford County, due to COVID-19.

To date, there have been 47,538 positive COVID cases recorded in Rutherford County and just over 45-thousand cases are now inactive or classified as "Recovered."

As of August 17, 2021, there were 2,068 "Active" COVID-19 cases in Rutherford County.


Rutherford County Schools

As of Aug. 13, 2021, a total of 6 Rutherford County School employees have been confirmed to have COVID-19. The schools also report that 32-employees are currently in quarantine (see the latest from the schools here).

There are 70-students within the county school system right now who are COVID Positive. Those students are not in the classroom and are recovering while undergoing the proper quarantine procedures, away from their home school.

The county schools will release the latest COVID numbers on their COVID Dashboard every Monday throughout the 2021-2022 school year. The numbers include weekly summaries from each school, so that parents, students and staff can stay informed and safe.

However, the first dashboard entry of the school year on 8/16/21, which is what WGNS is reporting today, only includes the data from Friday, 8/13/21, Not to worry, all future updates will include the weekly summary which will start on Monday, August 23, 2021.
