The new school year is about to begin and schools around the state are making preparations to keep COVID-19 out of the classroom.
Cleaning supplies aside, the big question for the Rutherford County School system, “Will students have to be masked or unmasked this year?” County Schools Director Bill Spurlock answered…
Again, at this point masks are not being mandated four the county schools - it is an option for students and staff.

While some students participated in virtual learning over much of the past school year, a small handful of parents withdrew their children altogether and decided to homeschool their children because of COVID concerns.
Spurlock said there was a much larger class of K thru 5th grade students that remained in school during the pandemic, when compared to other grade levels.
Rutherford County Schools will open for students on August 6th for an abbreviated 2-hour day and the first full day of classes will be on August 9, 2021.
