The Next Murfreesboro City Budget Rings in at $505-Million

The Murfreesboro City Council will meet in Special Session at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, May 20, in the Council Chambers at City Hall for the purpose of reviewing the proposed 2021-2022 Fiscal Year. 

The recommended budget for FY22 totals $505 million, which is composed of the following:

⋅ General Fund budget: $203.8 million
⋅ City Schools: $92.68 million
⋅ Loan/Bond Fund budget: $65.2 million
⋅ Debt Service budget: $38.3 million
⋅ Water Resources Department: $56.6 million
⋅ Insurance Fund: $23.87 million
⋅ Airport Fund: $10 million
⋅ Other Capital Sources Fund: $7.9 million
⋅ Risk Management Fund: $4 million
⋅ Stormwater Fund: $2.2 million

Council will conduct a Public Hearing during its Regular meeting after they review the budget proposal. The Public Hearing will be at 6 p.m., to consider ‘First Reading’ of the Fiscal Year 2022 Budget ordinance, proposed tax rate, and appropriations ordinances and Budget Resolutions for Schools, Water Resources, the Stormwater Fund and the Evergreen Cemetery.

Second reading will be considered at the City Council Workshop on June 9th. The Council budget decisions will be considered ahead of the new Fiscal year beginning July 1, 2021.

The Fiscal Year 2021-2022 Budget has already been distributed to City Council, in accordance with the Murfreesboro City Charter.
