COVID Unemployment PEAKS in Tennessee

New COVID-19 related unemployment claims are down again, after a slight rise the previous week.

The latest numbers closed the week out on October 17th with 9,873 NEW unemployment claims.

Since March 15th, there have been 891,598 jobless claims filed in Tennessee. That number represents filings related to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Currently, there are 77,740 approved recipients receiving unemployment benefits in the Volunteer State due to COVID related unemployment. When COVID was at its peak, there were over 325,000 unemployment checks going out in one week, which was the week that ended on May 9th.

Currently in Rutherford County, there are 3,604 residents receiving unemployment benefits due to being out of work because of COVID-19 related illnesses or economic problems caused by the coronavirus. Initially when COVID first hit, there were only 349 unemployment claims filed in Rutherford County.
