The non-region, Rutherford County battle between Riverdale and Smyrna goes the Warrior's way with a 40-20 victory at Tom Nolan Field Friday night.
Riverdale scored with just a little more than two minutes left in the first half to take a 14-7 lead to the locker room.
The Warriors started the second half with a big run by Brandon Connard:
The two teams would trade scores in the third and with 9:10 left in the fourth, Smyrna got within eight with quarterback Landon Miller on a big pass play:
After holding Riverdale and with the Bulldogs driving, Caleb Herring came up with an interception, the only turnover of the game, that set up the Warriors on a short field. They would punch it in twice more for the final 40-20 margin.
Smyrna's Landon Miller was 7-of-17 passing for 144 yards and an interception. Arian Carter had 77-yards on 14-carries.
Riverdale ground out 377 yards on the ground, 461 total yards of offense. The run game was dominated by Connard's 231-yards on 17 carries and a touchdown and Marcus Lloyd's 147-yards on 19-carries and four TD's.
The Warriors jump back into region play with their first road game of the season at Rockvale. Smyrna has a scheduled game with Green Hill.
