New Unemployment Numbers now UP in Tennessee

The numbers for NEW Unemployment filings related to the COVID Pandemic in Tennessee has gone up after 2-weeks of decreasing.

According to the Labor and Workforce Development Department, at the close of this past week on August 15th, Tennessee saw 13,806 new persons file an unemployment claim. That number is up by 3,770 claims when compared to the close of the previous week (ending on August 8, 2020).

The peak of new unemployment claims during the COVID-19 Pandemic came on April 4th with more than 116-thousand new persons filing for unemployment in the Volunteer State.

Since the start of the coronavirus in March (2020), there have been 795,116 new unemployment claims filed in Tennessee. Of that number, only 249,690 claims have been paid, which totals almost $84 million.
