A strange story out of Bedford County. Bedford County Sheriff Deputies had to shoot and kill a Japanese Monkey that attacked a woman on Thursday. The Japanese Snow Monkey escaped from a home on Frank Martin Road. Deputies say that after the monkey escaped, it attacked a woman who was in her driveway washing a car. The monkey bit the victim in the calf. When deputies arrived, the monkey scratched one of the deputies in the arm. Deputies had to shoot the animal three times to kill it.
The female victim was transported to Middle Tennessee Medical Center to undergo surgery for the bite on her leg. The deputy was treated in Bedford County Hospital and later released.
The woman who owns the monkeys had four more that were locked in cages. They were taken by Animal Control after being tranquilized. The female who owns them may face animal cruelty charges because the monkeys were found in small cages without food and water. The female was not home when deputies arrived, she was already in jail for drug manufacturing charges.
