The two men who escaped from the Cannon County Jail around 12:45 Wednesday afternoon (7/6/2011) and slipped into the woods behind Doolittle Road have been caught.
On Wednesday night, 31-year old James Hill was apprehended while wandering around Woodbury. Prior to the escape, he was in jail on attempted murder charges.
Search crews, scent dogs and the Tennessee Highway Patrol helicopter continued the search of the wooded area where the men were last seen. Early Thursday morning (7/7/2011), officers got a surprise. Cannon County Sheriff Darrell Young explained that they saw Aubrey Sanders staggering down the road in front of them. The 31-year old escapee, who was being held on drug charges, collapsed on the roadway. The sheriff said, "He told me his legs simply gave out."
Sanders was strapped to a gurney and taken to the Stones River Hospital in Woodbury for a checkup before being taken back to jail.
Sheriff Young said that James Hill and Aubrey Sanders were cellmates, and the two were able to pull a small hole in the fence that surrounded the jail's exercise yard. Around lunchtime Wednesday, they slipped though it and ran toward the hospital and into the woods.
Again, both escapees from the Cannon County Jail are again behind bars. In addition, a woman was also arrested as an accessory. Fortunately, no one was injured in the apprehension of these escapees.
