MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS) - For nearly three decades, Greenhouse Ministries has been a place where struggling families in Rutherford County could find groceries, clothing, encouragement, and hope. Now, the husband-and-wife team who started it all are preparing for retirement.

Founders Cliff and Jane Sharp are retiring after 27 years of service to the Murfreesboro-based nonprofit they launched in 1999. The announcement was made by their daughter, Christy Sanford, who now serves as executive director of Greenhouse Ministries and will continue leading the organization into the future.

In a heartfelt message to supporters, Sanford reflected on watching her parents answer what they believed was a call to help neighbors facing difficult circumstances.

“I watched Mom and Dad see neighbors in Rutherford County who were hungry, hurting and out of options, and said yes,” Sanford shared.

What began as a response to local needs grew into one of Murfreesboro's most recognized nonprofit organizations, serving countless individuals and families throughout Middle Tennessee. Sanford said she has witnessed her parents' dedication firsthand and now has the privilege of continuing the mission they started.

The community will have an opportunity to thank the Cliff and Jane in person during a special celebration honoring their legacy on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2026, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Greenhouse Ministries, located at 309 S. Academy Street in Murfreesboro. The event is designed as a come-and-go gathering, allowing supporters to stop by at their convenience.

Sanford noted that many volunteers, donors, prayer partners, and community members have worked alongside her parents throughout the years, and she hopes they will join in recognizing the couple's contributions.

She is also encouraging supporters to make a "Legacy Gift" in honor of the Sharps. Proceeds will help ensure the ministry continues serving neighbors in need for years to come. The public is also encouraged to submit personal notes and messages that will be presented to the retiring founders in a keepsake book.

While Cliff and Jane Sharp may be stepping away from day-to-day leadership, their impact on Rutherford County will continue through the ministry they built and the thousands of lives touched by a simple decision made 27 years ago: to say yes.
