MURFREESBORO, TN — Major infrastructure and economic development plans are taking shape along the Interstate 840 corridor in Murfreesboro, aimed at managing the city's ongoing growth.
During an interview on Wednesday, Sept. 9, Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland discussed the forthcoming Clarius Tech Park, regional traffic strategies, and the community's ongoing conversation about expansion.
Clarius Tech Park and Hord Farm Development - Addressing the development along I-840 and Broad Street, McFarland confirmed the progress of the Clarius project on the historic Hord farm property, an area split by the interchange years ago. He clarified that contrary to national trends and local speculation, the site will not house a data center, but instead, a Tech Park... The strategic location at the interchange is expected to bring significant employment opportunities to the community without overwhelming local downtown traffic.
"That really in my opinion turned out to be great for the community because it's going to be jobs right there at the interchange, but those people will not be driving back into Murfreesboro like all the services, so it's going to be getting on the interstate," McFarland added.
Stones Battle Parkway and Traffic Solutions - To manage the influx of activity, the city has conducted extensive corridor studies. This planning paved the way for new roadway alignments, including the Stones Battle Parkway and Cherry Lane.

Balancing Growth and Community Identity - As Murfreesboro's population continues to rise, the mayor acknowledged the friction that sometimes occurs between long-time locals and newcomers. He noted that the city's current growth rate is a manageable 1.8 to 2 percent, a sharp decrease from the double-digit growth seen a couple of decades ago....
