MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Members of the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) SWAT Team provided critical, lifesaving medical care after encountering a multi-vehicle collision while returning from a training exercise.

The SWAT Team members had just completed SWAT training when they came upon the serious crash. Team members immediately stopped and assessed the scene, discovering a motorcycle rider had been ejected from his motorcycle into another passing vehicle following an apparent head-on collision.

The team immediately evaluated the patient and started providing emergency care. In less than one minute, SWAT Team members assessed the patient, applied four tourniquets to extremities that were amputated or nearly amputated during the crash, and established an IV. Members also provided C-spine stabilization to limit movement of the rider's neck and reduce the risk of further spinal cord injury.

The immediate medical care took place while additional emergency medical resources were responding to the scene. The RCSO commended the SWAT Team members for their professionalism, preparedness, and immediate response to the life-threatening situation.
