RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WGNS News) - WGNS has additional information on a motorcycle crash that left a Florida man seriously injured on Interstate 24 in Rutherford County late last week. The single-vehicle crash occurred Thursday, August 27, 2026, on I-24 East near mile marker 96.

According to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 66-year-old Larry Perez of Florida was traveling east toward Chattanooga when he lost control of the Indian motorcycle he was riding. The crash occurred shortly before the Beechgrove exit at approximately 10:15 Thursday morning.

The investigating state trooper reported that Perez lost control of the bike, “...struck a guardrail and was thrown from the motorcycle.” After striking the guardrail, the motorcycle came to rest on the right shoulder of the interstate.

In addition to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, firefighters with Rutherford County Fire Rescue responded to the crash and worked alongside paramedics to provide lifesaving aid to the injured motorcyclist. As THP investigated the crash, deputies with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office assisted by diverting traffic away from the accident scene.

Preliminary information from the Highway Patrol indicates Perez suffered serious injuries in the crash. An updated report on the extent of those injuries was not immediately available. The THP report noted that Perez was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The preliminary report does not indicate that another vehicle was involved in the crash, and no charges appear to be pending against any motorists in connection with the incident.
