MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS) - MTSU will kick off the 2026 football season at 6:00PM on Saturday, September 5, 2026, and they’re doing it with a little extra Tennessee sparkle. The Blue Raiders will take the field at Johnny “Red” Floyd Stadium in Murfreesboro, wearing a special Dolly Parton tribute on their uniforms. It’s a nod to one of the state’s most iconic figures and a first‑time uniform addition for the program.
The season opener brings Murray State to town, marking a renewed matchup between the Blue Raiders and Racers. In fact, this marks the first meeting between the teams since 2023. The odds makers side with MTSU—giving the Blue Raiders an 88.1% probability of coming out on top!
Fans are already buzzing about the game itself, but the Dolly patch has added a fun twist that’s getting statewide attention. It’s hard to find a Tennessean who doesn’t have a Dolly story, a Dolly song, or a Dolly smile tucked somewhere in their memory, so the tribute feels right at home.
The Blue Raiders have used patches before to honor individuals and causes, but this one stands out. Dolly’s impact on Tennessee — from her music and entertainment legacy to her philanthropy, literacy work, and statewide goodwill — makes the gesture feel especially meaningful as MTSU opens a new season.
