MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Murfreesboro Police Department Criminal Investigations Division detectives have released the names of the two men killed in an apparent murder-suicide early Tuesday morning at Saddlebrook Apartments.
Authorities identified the men as 27-year-old Zachery Brown and 32-year-old Thomas Rollins.
A preliminary investigation indicates that Brown shot and killed Rollins before taking his own life outside the F-building of the apartment complex.
Officers first responded to Saddlebrook Apartments at approximately 1:44 a.m. on Tuesday morning, July 28, 2026, after the Rutherford County Emergency Communications Center received multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire. When officers arrived at the scene, they found both men deceased.
Detectives confirmed that Brown and Rollins knew each other. While the details surrounding what led up to the shooting remain open, police confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the surrounding community.
Saddlebrook Apartments are located on Saddlebrook Drive, off Northfield Boulevard and near Northfield Elementary School.
The incident remains under active investigation by detectives with the Murfreesboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division.

At this point, it appears the two knew one another and while the details may be a lot deeper, police are not saying much as the investigation remains open.

According to the Murfreesboro Police Department, the preliminary investigation indicates that one person shot the other before taking their own life. While Detectives have acknowledged the duo did indeed know one another, they are still looking for further information from the public.
Police did however release that there is no ongoing threat to the surrounding community.
