The driver of a Dodge Ram pickup truck involved in a multi-vehicle fatal crash last July on I-24 West near Old Hickory Boulevard has been arrested following a grand jury indictment. The Rutherford County man is charged with vehicular homicide by reckless conduct, four counts of reckless aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of reckless endangerment.

An investigation into the July 2, 2024, crash revealed that three vehicles were stopped in heavy traffic when Tyler Watson, 28, of Murfreesboro, driving his Ram truck, struck the rear of a Toyota Solara. The impact caused the Solara to collide with two other vehicles.

The driver of the Solara, Daniel Roberts, 39, also of Murfreesboro, died at the scene, according to Metro Police who investigated the collision.

Authorities determined that Watson showed no signs of impairment at the time of the crash. However, investigators found that he had been distracted by his phone when the accident occurred.

Watson was booked into the Davidson County Sheriff's Office at about 6 PM on Monday and released on bond 6-hours later. His bond was set at $25-thousand.
