Everything appears to be on schedule for the new Poplar Hill Elementary School to open in August of this year, marking the start of the 2025-2026 school year. When the school first opens, it will serve approximately 800 students in grades K through 5. However, the student population is expected to grow, and the building is designed to accommodate up to 1,200 students.
Located halfway between Murfreesboro and Smyrna, the new $60 million school will serve students from Brown's Chapel, Stewarts Creek, and Stewartsboro elementary schools. In the near future, officials with Rutherford County Schools (RCS) hope to begin construction on Poplar Hill Middle School, which is anticipated to be the next school built in Rutherford County. The future school for grades 6, 7, and 8 will be constructed adjacent to Poplar Hill Elementary.
