Area Residents Warned: Prepare for Dangerous Winter Conditions

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - UPDATED: On Tuesday evening, the National Weather Service updated its winter weather advisory to extend until Thursday at midnight. The weather service continues to predict snow accumulation of up to 2 inches in Rutherford and surrounding counties in Middle Tennessee. According to officials, the snow will likely be accompanied by wind chills of 5 degrees above zero and 4 degrees below zero. Some of the dangerous impacts of such a significant drop in temperature include frostbite and hypothermia, which can occur if unprotected skin is exposed to dangerously cold conditions.

While forecasters continue to monitor the weather, multiple emergency response agencies are bracing for potential disasters caused by unprepared motorists and those who must work outdoors in the elements. Concerns have prompted police and fire departments in our area to issue warnings and reminders to residents.

One of the recent agencies to issue a stern warning to citizens is the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department (MFRD), which reminds residents to take extra precautions to ensure safety at home, on the road, and in the community.
