WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TN - The Franklin Police Department (FPD) has announced that the search for 29-year-old Roy Nicholson, III, has come to an end after he was located and taken into custody in Columbia, Tennessee on Tuesday. Nicholson, a convicted felon, was set to begin a five-year prison sentence this month but failed to turn himself in on January 2, 2025.
Nicholson's legal troubles date back to April 2022 when he struck Franklin Sgt. Dustyn Stevens with his vehicle while attempting to flee a traffic stop on I-65. His conviction and sentencing followed a series of charges, including reckless aggravated assault, evading arrest with a deadly weapon, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. Late last year (2024), he was sentenced to prison.
On January 2, 2025 he was supposed to report for prison, but he proved to be a no-show. Therefore, a warrant was obtained for his arrest on January 3, 2025. Several weeks later Franklin Police developed leads that ultimately led them to his location on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. Nicholson was found in Columbia, TN where he was taken into custody. He is now on track to serve his sentence for the crimes committed in 2022.
While police have not released details on why the man failed to appear for his incarceration, state records did confirm that his re-arrest came just 12-days after his January 16th birthday when he turned 29.
