Nashville, TN - The Tennessee Professional Fire Fighters Association (TPFFA) has endorsed State Rep. Mike Sparks, R-Smyrna, in the House District 49 race.
“It’s a great honor to be endorsed by the Tennessee Professional Fire Fighters Association,” Sparks said. “This organization works on behalf of some of the bravest men and women in Tennessee who are dedicated to keeping our communities safe. The legislation they advocate for provides meaningful change in the lives of firefighters and emergency personnel, and I look forward to continuing to work with them to improve public safety in Tennessee.”
The TPFFA works to protect the interests of firefighters, fire instructors, fire prevention professionals, emergency medical service (EMS) workers, fire and EMS dispatchers and other emergency-related personnel across the Volunteer State. The organization represents 30 affiliates with roughly 4,500 active and retired members across the state.
Sparks has been a passionate advocate for emergency services personnel in the legislature. During the 113th General Assembly, he was a co-sponsor of the James “Dustin” Samples Act, which makes clear that a firefighter’s Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) diagnosis connected to one or more calls of a particularly traumatic nature is presumed to be an injury suffered in the course of employment. This qualifies them for resources through their workers’ compensation benefits plan.
The TPFFA was chartered by the International Association of Fire Fighters in 1960. It is affiliated with the Southern Federation of Fire Fighters.
State Rep. Mike Sparks represents House District 49, which includes Smyrna and northern Murfreesboro.
