COFFEE COUNTY, TN - In a plot twist that's as old as the hills, the nearby Coffee County Sheriff’s Office in Manchester, TN is once again running into the same problem that the Sheriff’s Office in Rutherford County has continued to faced. Coffee County officials report their deputies and officers are being impersonated by phone scammers. Yes, you heard that right—these con-artists have dusted off their old scripts and changed their wording from Rutherford County to Coffee County, pretending to be the very people who are supposed to keep us safe. Their latest scam involves calling unsuspecting residents and claiming that they have an outstanding warrant or some other legal issue that can be “resolved” with a payment over the phone.

The scammers, ever the entrepreneurs, are asking for payments via prepaid credit cards or other similarly dubious methods. It seems they’ve forgotten—or perhaps never knew—that the real Sheriff’s Department doesn’t handle legal matters through phone calls or solicit payments in this manner.

For those who might still be unsure: no, the Sheriff’s Department will not be calling you to demand money. If you receive such a call, it’s a scam, plain and simple. The best course of action is to hang up immediately and contact your local law enforcement agency. If you’re feeling particularly helpful, jot down the number of the caller to assist in any potential investigations.

If you or someone you know has unfortunately fallen for this scam, don’t hesitate to report it to the authorities. Remember, when it comes to dealing with legal matters, if it sounds too shady to be true, it probably is.
