RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN – Residents are urged to stay well-hydrated and avoid outdoor activities unless absolutely necessary throughout the week, as high heat index readings are likely to persist. That said, Dwight Ogleton, founder of the Cool-Aid Program, has been providing air-conditioned relief for over 20 years… The long-time Rutherford County resident emphasizes the importance of checking on the elderly and those with young children during the ongoing extreme temperatures.

Today - Tuesday, August 6, the heat index is expected to soar to 104 degrees, with actual temperatures reaching 97. Wednesday, August 7, will be another scorching day, with temperatures climbing to 95 degrees and the heat index surpassing 105 degrees. High temperatures are anticipated to continue into Thursday and Friday, affecting the Murfreesboro, Smyrna, LaVergne and Eagleville areas.

Ogleton reminds residents to ensure that friends and loved ones have a properly working air conditioner and to make sure neighbors are safe during this week's heat wave.

The hot months of summer are key times for the Cool-Aid Program to offer crucial assistance by providing and installing air conditioning units and fans for those who cannot afford them. Volunteers regularly help Ogleton install window unit AC’s, especially when temperatures rise significantly.

The Cool-Aid Program collects AC units and fans throughout the year to ensure they are available when needed most... Ogleton’s dedication and the support of the community make it possible to keep vulnerable residents cool and safe during times of high temps.
