EAGLEVILLE, Tenn. – Two games on the record with two mercy rules as the Eagleville Eagles routed the Oakdale Eagles 17-2 in five innings in the 2024 Class 1A TSSAA State Spring Fling Baseball Tournament.
In a tale of two teams, Eagleville’s bats were hot straight out of the gate.
After shutting down Oakdale’s first four batters in the top of the first, Eagleville quickly loaded the bases and jumped out to an early 7-0 lead with Marshall Spann driving in two runs, Nathan Brown with three runs, and both Body McLemore and Cason Lamb’s walks adding a run each.
Adding three runs in the second inning, Eagleville added to their 10-1 lead in the fourth scoring seven runs on six hits.
Joshua Jeffcoat started on the mound for Eagleville and threw three strikeouts and allowed four hits and one earned run on 49 pitches across his three innings pitched. Jeffcoat battled through visible pain as a pitch hit him during his first at-bat, leaving him limping.
Maddox Bouldin relieved him for the final two innings with four strikeouts and 1 run allowed.
Oakdale’s pitching struggled to get going as the committee of Nehemiah Cooney, Aaron Dunlap, Bryson Cox, Isaac Collins, and Liam Smith only recorded two strikeouts and allowed 13 hits and 17 runs (12 earned). The group also hit six batters.
Eagleville will look to continue its push in the tournament Thu, May 23 at 2:00 p.m. against the winner of the elimination game against Oakdale and South Pittsburg.
