Murfreesboro, TN - After almost 10-hours of being closed, Thompson Lane reopened to traffic shortly before 10 o'clock Saturday night (5/11/2024). The problem began around 11:00 o'clock Saturday morning when Murfreesboro Fire-Rescue along with Police responded to a ruptured gas line call on Thompson Lane between Siegel Road and Leanna Road.
Murfreesboro Police Public Information Officer Larry Flowers told WGNS News that 8 people, a dog and a cat were evacuated during the incident. No injuries were reported.
The preliminary report shows that construction workers using an excavator hit a 4-inch gas line.
ATMOS Energy crews quickly responded, but they worked late into night making the repairs. As a precaution, the roadway had was shutdown until late in the evening.
The impacted area of Thompson Lane was between Siegel and Leanna Roads.
The Heart of Tennessee Chapter of the American Red Cross provided a temporary shelter at First Baptist Church on East Main Street, downtown.
Again, no injuries were reported and Thompson Lane was reopened shortly before 10 o'clock Saturday night.
