Murfreesboro, TN - Blackman High School's Blaze Library will host a fundraiser for the Murfreesboro Rescue Mission in the coming weeks, aiming to support the organization's efforts to purchase land for a new homeless shelter. Brian Seadorf, the school's library media specialist, initiated the school's poetry club earlier this year and is spearheading the event.

Seadorf, who has a personal connection with Ed Grimes, the founder and executive director of the Murfreesboro Rescue Mission, hopes to raise $1,000 to assist the organization in reaching its goal of $150,000 for the land purchase. The fundraiser, titled "Pie and Poetry," will take place on March 12th at 6 p.m., with a $10 admission fee per person.

The event will feature members of the local Poetry in the Boro group and other participants sharing their writing, culminating in a performance by Kevin Max of the Christian band DC Talk. BHS culinary students will prepare chocolate pie, and students from the agriculture program will assist with decorations.

The poetry club, consisting of approximately 10 dedicated students, was established this year and meets twice a month. Seniors Halli Boatright, Emily Burchard, and Lacey Reid have taken the lead in organizing the fundraiser. They emphasized the therapeutic nature of writing and expressed their intentions to share new work at the event.
