Feb 20, 2024 at 06:50 pm by Chandelar Williams

Murfreesboro, TN - Middle Tennessee State University's Textiles, Merchandising and Design department is hosting a public event featuring Brandice Daniel on February 27. This event is part of the university's Black History Month activities and will also kick off National Women’s History Month in March. During the event, Nia Allen, an instructor in the TXMD department, will interview Daniel, focusing on the importance of representation in the fashion industry.

Brandice Daniel, originally from Memphis, has dedicated two decades to bridging the gap between designers of color and the fashion industry. Her work has been particularly impactful for professionals like Allen, who have felt marginalized in the industry. In 2007, Daniel founded Harlem’s Fashion Row, a platform aimed at promoting inclusion and style. Through this initiative, multicultural designers have been able to showcase their work in an industry that can often be exclusive.

Daniel's influence extends beyond the fashion world. She has been featured in prestigious publications such as Harper’s Bazaar, the New York Times, Essence magazine, and Vogue. Additionally, she has made appearances on popular television shows including “Good Morning America,” “The Drew Barrymore Show,” and “Project Runway,” and is a member of Gucci’s Changemakers Council. Daniel has also been a speaker at TEDx, the Forbes 30 Under 30 Summit, and the Forbes CMO Summit.

The event, which is being supported by various sponsors, will take place at the Keathley University Center Theater. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with the event beginning at 6:30 p.m.
