Smyrna, Tennessee - A three-year-old case involving the tragic overdose death of a woman at Sleep Inn, located on Highwood Blvd in Smyrna, has resurfaced with an upcoming status hearing scheduled for March. Smyrna Police, dispatched to the scene in March of 2021, discovered a deceased female, with a subsequent investigation revealing a drug overdose as the cause of death.
The exhaustive efforts of Smyrna's Criminal Investigation Division led to the identification of Kristen Amanda Tweed as the prime suspect, following the gathering of pertinent evidence. In February of 2022, the Rutherford County Grand Jury handed down an indictment against Tweed, charging her with Second Degree Murder in connection with the overdose death.
Aside from the Second Degree Murder charge, 38-year-old Kristen Tweed is facing an array of felony drug charges, including nine counts of manufacturing, delivery, or sale of a Schedule 2 drug, two counts of manufacturing, delivery, or sale of methamphetamine, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
In January, a continuance was granted by Judge James Turner, postponing further proceedings. A status hearing has been scheduled for March 6, where updates on the case's progress are expected. Attorney Matt Westmoreland is representing the State in this matter, while Tweed is being represented by attorney Thomas Parkerson.
