(SMYRNA, TN) On Monday (12/11/2023) morning a truck was found in a creek that is just off Fitzhugh Blvd. near the Smyrna-Rutherford County Airport and golf course. Emergency Management retrieved the vehicle. 46-Year old La Vergne Police Officer Brandon Joyner died in this single-vehicle accident. He had served six-years with La Vergne Police.
The La Vergne Police Facebook page requests, "We are asking for prayers for the family of Officer Joyner as well as our police department and city as we begin to mourn. We also ask for privacy for Officer Joyner’s personal family and LPD family as we process and deal with this loss."
Heather Kent, Public Information Officer for the Town of Smyrna, confirmed the distressing news, stating that Smyrna Police became aware of the situation around 10 am. As of now, the case is an active investigation, with authorities working to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
The tight-knit community of Smyrna is undoubtedly shaken by this unfortunate incident, as is the neighboring community of LaVergne as it was one of their very own in law enforcement. Reports also show that Joyner served in the National Guard 269th Military Police Company, which is based in Murfreesboro.
