New Dean of Education at MTSU Talks About Working with Local Schools to Hire, Retain and Create More Teachers

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - With a nationwide teacher shortage, WGNS asked the new dean of the MTSU College of Education what can be done to better hire and keep teachers. *Dr. Neporcha Cone stated...

Some school systems across the country are experimenting with new ways of encouraging individuals to become a teacher. Dr. Cone explained that one initiative in particular has excited her locally... She has also been in contact with Bedford County and Nashville Schools. Dr. Cone said the Tennessee Teach Back initiative has some similarities to the “Grow Your Own” program.

Cone's career in education began at the middle school level when she became a public school teacher in Miami, Florida in the late ’90s. During that time, Cone worked to complete her master’s and doctoral degrees. She transitioned to postdoctoral work and higher education in 2006.
