RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. - At the start of the month on October 2nd, gas prices were at $3.30 per gallon in Tennessee, and the average price for regular unleaded has since fallen to $3.22. Over the past week, the price decreased by 5.6 cents per gallon, according to GasBuddy's survey of 3,821 stations in Tennessee. Prices in Tennessee are 13.1 cents per gallon lower than last month and stand 16.5 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.
Gas prices in Rutherford County were averaging $3.19 per gallon early Monday morning, while prices to the South of the county were sitting at $3.59 per gallon. In fact, AAA Auto Club reports that Williamson County continues to have the highest average price for regular unleaded in the state. The lowest price at the pumps can be found in Northwest Tennessee in Henry County. There, gas is averaging $2.97 per gallon. Henry County sits on the border of Kentucky.
The average price of mid-grade fuel in the Volunteer State is $3.63 per gallon. Premium is sitting at $4.00. At this same time last year, mid-grade gas was $3.75 at the pump, while premium fuel was $4.12 per gallon.
The national average price of gasoline has fallen 10.2 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.67/g today. The national average is down 13.8 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 25.0 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.

DIESEL - For diesel, the national average price has fallen 4.0 cents in the last week and stands at $4.48 per gallon. In Tennessee, diesel is averaging $4.22 per gallon. Last year at this time, it was $4.76 per gallon.
Diesel was priced at its highest point last year when it hit $5.64 per gallon. If you look at diesel prices in October of 1994, it was priced at a national average of $1.12 per gallon. The price fluctuated annually, but never above the $2.00 mark until October of 2004, when the price of diesel hit $2.13 per gallon (Natl. Avg.). By January of the following year in 2005, the price was back down to $1.95. The price of diesel later soared to $3.09 per gallon in October of that same year (2005).
