Murfreesboro, TN – Rutherford County Area Habitat for Humanity (RCHFH) is thrilled to partner with MTSU and Exit Realty Bob Lamb & Assoc. on a Panel Build where over 100 students and realtors will build all of the walls for a Habitat house in just 5 hours. The event will take place at the MTSU Student Union Commons on Thursday November 5, 9am – 2pm.
As the walls are built, students will stand them up to create a Habitat house right there on the Student Union Commons. They will be able to walk through the house with Future Homeowner Frederica and sign the walls with best wishes. Team photos and video will be taken throughout the event and posted to social media.
After the Panel Build, the finished walls will be moved to the construction location of the Habitat house at Legacy Pointe for Future Homeowner Frederica who works for Aramark Food Service. Like most Habitat Future Homeowners, Frederica has been cost burdened with high rent and limited rental choices for her and her daughter. Frederica never thought she’d become a homeowner, but the Habitat program is helping her realize those dreams. “This home will bring us even closer as a family because we will be building it together” she shared. She is looking forward to hosting holiday events, game nights, and family gatherings at her new home.
Habitat Future Homeowners earn 40-80% of the Area Medium Income (AMI) and cannot qualify for a conventional mortgage. Frederica has completed Financial Literacy and Homeowner Education classes where she learned how to manage her money, make good financial decisions and a plan to maintain her home. She is also completing 250 hours of partnership by working on Habitat builds, including building her own home.
The program gives Future Homeowners a chance to really see how a house is built and what goes into their own home. They also learn how to maintain their home. RCHFH’s Legacy Pointe affordable housing subdivision on Twin Oak Drive in Murfreesboro currently is home to 22 families and will eventually have 77 houses for low-moderate income individuals and families. Frederica’s house will be built between October and January 2024 and she and her daughter will be able to move in early 2024. “That’s a great way to start the New Year off”, she states.
