Murfreesboro, Tenn. - Rutherford County officials are excited to announce a series of community workshops scheduled in October as part of the ongoing PlanRutherford initiative. These workshops are an important part of updating the county's comprehensive plan and community members are invited to participate in shaping the vision for the county's future through this process.

The PlanRutherford initiative has been a collaborative effort, engaging the public to identify priorities and a vision for the county's development over recent months. Six central themes have emerged from extensive community engagement: proactively planning for investments, tackling challenges, supporting a thriving economy, preserving farmland, focusing on community and protecting quality of life, and ensuring fiscal responsibility. These themes will be the foundation for discussions and planning during the upcoming workshops with the goal of learning more about residents’ priorities to help identify how Rutherford County can plan to achieve the community’s vision. See the interactive site that shows population growth here

The population has increased by 30% in Rutherford County since 2010. That number is expected to make another extensive jump in the years to come. By year 2045, the population of Rutherford County will likely hit a little over 555-thousand residents.

UPCOMING COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS: The workshops will include information about how current growth trends will impact quality of life and then provide an opportunity for you to be "planner for the day" by telling us where and how you think the county should grow.

Each of the following workshops will have two start times to choose from, 5:30 p.m. or 6:00 p.m.:

• Wednesday, October 4 - Smyrna Event Center - 100 Sam Ridley Pkwy, Smyrna, TN

• Tuesday, October 10 - Plainview Elementary School - 7182 Otter Pond Way, Christiana, TN

• Wednesday, October 11 - Lascassas Elementary School - 6300 Lascassas Pike, Lascassas, TN
