MURFREESBORO, TN - Anxiety and depression continue to be a cause for concern among youth and young adults... Dr. Robin Lee, director of the MTSU Center for Counseling and Psychological Services, said that social media has a major impact on the mental well-being of youth. At times, teens may not understand what they read or see and don't know where to turn for answers.

Dr. Lee acknowledged a rise in anxiety and depression rates... Battling anxiety can be a lifelong challenge that comes and goes. She said it's important to help those with anxiety develop their own set of tools to keep it at bay and know how to manage it in the future.

According to Lee, people are becoming more aware of their mental well-being, while having a better understanding of mental health... In addition to providing free counseling services to MTSU students, the MTSU Center for Counseling and Psychological Service also provides services to the local residents... This past weekend, MTSU partnered with the R.I.S.E. Coalition to host the youth mental health expo in Murfreesboro. The mission of the R.I.S.E. Coalition is to bridge the gap between ideas and action for communities of color in Rutherford County. Rise stands for "Rutherford Inclusivity Service & Empowerment." Dr. Lee told WGNS the expo was a success!
