MURFREESBORO, TN - Inspiritus, a non-profit organization committed to guiding families in need on a path from surviving to thriving, will empower more than 40 Murfreesboro youth through a mural painting at McFadden Community Center.

The mural design has been in the works for over a year, drawing its inspiration from the youth artists themselves. Youth artists were encouraged to create art that highlights and celebrates the similarities and differences they have with their neighbors. Guided by an Inspiritus art therapist, the kids will paint a mural in a prominent part of the community center designed to promote unity among differences and similarities within the community.

Janet Arning, the Executive Director of Empowerment Services at Inspiritus told WGNS  NEWS, “This mural reflects the creativity of our youth artists as they explore the themes of community and culture. It is a beautiful depiction of how our unique individual differences as well as similarities come together to create culture and in our community.”

Inspiritus serves Middle Tennessee communities through intentional empowerment services, including THRIVE Studios. The therapeutic art program promotes growth, healing and creativity in youth and adults living in underserved and low-income communities.

This won’t be the first impactful mural that THRIVE Studios has been a part of — In 2021, children from the Cheatham Place public housing community assisted Omari Booker in the creation of this North Nashville mural, designed to help process the difficult issue of racism.
